Sphene cuts one of the most colorful and flashy stones around. It is a fairly hard to acquire stone and not normally found clean in larger sizes. The dispersion of sphene is higher than a diamond so the rainbow of colors flashing out of this material when cut properly will be stunning. This rough also has a very high refractive index so many inclusions can be hidden within the stone if proper planing is used. This material is from Pakistan. I have had a lot of requests for this material so I picked this parcel up when the opportunity arose. The rough in this blind pour parcel is running between 1ct. and over 15cts, with the average size running just shy of 4cts. 50% or more should face up eye clean when properly cut. If you haven’t cut any sphene rough give some a try you’ll be hooked on it after your very first stone. A-1 = Just $2.25 per carat or 2.00 per carat if you buy the entire parcel or what is left when you place your order. It is running eye clean to included. but many if not most of the included stones will cut slightly included some even eye clean with some extra loss with planing. there is nearly 404cts available. B-1 = Just $0.75 per carat. This is thin, or sub carat or excessively included rough that will need to be either cabbed or cobbed to get the most value out of it. Many clean stones will be cut from this rough but due to the shapes or amount of inclusion yield may be lower than normal to get the best out of it. For the price you cant go wrong. Most of the thinner stones should cut eye clean 2mm to 3mm X 4mm or 3mm x 6mm |
